Gigi has painted in oils and pastels for over twenty-five years in a continuing exploration of the dramatic effects of both natural and artificial light. Her early work investigated color-drenched still life subjects, later evolving into images that explored the mysterious phenomena of nocturnal illumination. Recent work has expanded both palette and subject matter to celebrate the chroma of morning and afternoon light. Liverant's subjects are selected for their design elements and relationship to their environment, while color choices reveal her emotional response to the subject. In addition to the pastels for which she is known, Gigi Liverant has developed her unique imagery in large-scale oil paintings. Her work is recognized for its emphasis on luminous color, spontaneous surface texture. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including First Prize Connecticut Women Artists, Best in Show Connecticut Pastel Society, and the Diane Bernhardt Gold Medal Award at the PSA Annual Exhibition in 2000. She is a Pastel Society of America Master Pastelist and a Signature Member of the Connecticut Pastel Society. Liverant has also been awarded important national and regional commissions including the Cow Parades in both New York and West Hartford, the Whale Trail in Southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island and murals at multiple locations of the Connecticut Savings Bank. She is much sought after teacher and lecturer in the Southeastern Connecticut area. Liverant's work is included in important public and private collections including Lyman Allyn Art Museum, Connecticut College, Three Rivers Community College, and New Haven Paint and Clay Club. Gigi Liverant lives and works in Colchester, Connecticut. Ms. Liverant has produced numerous solo shows and participated nationally in exhibitions including the Pastel Society of America, the Connecticut Pastel Society, Annual Art of the Northeast USA, the Kansas Pastel Society, Associated American Artists, the Whale Trail in Southeastern Connecticut in 2005 and, both CowParade New York City 2000, and CowParade West Hartford 2003. She has frequently received merit awards for her work including a First Prize at the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts Exhibition, the Dianne Bernhardt Gold Medal Award at the PSA Annual Exhibition, Best in Show at the Connecticut Pastel Society Exhibition, and First Prize at the Connecticut Women Artists Annual Exhibition.
