The Norwich Arts Center presents CWA Council Show, an exhibit of art by the Connecticut Women Artists, at the NAC Gallery from Wednesday, February 2 to Saturday, February 26, 2011.   An Opening Reception for the exhibit will be held Friday, February 4th, 2011 at 6:00- 9:00pm.  This annual staple at the NAC Gallery showcases the uniqueness and diversity of female artists.

Boasting a membership of over 200 artists, the CWA has been supporting and promoting women in the visual arts community for over 80 years.  Sparked by a solitary exhibit of 13 women in 1929 at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, the CWA’s annual exhibit at the NAC Gallery showcases an array of work ranging from expressive portraits to introspective fields of color, testifying to the diversity of experience and masterful skill of these creative women.

Artists on exhibit will include: Sherrie Parenteau (President), Anne Barbara Zarcone (Vice President),  Joanne Agostinelli, Lindsay Aromin, Jeanne Ciravolo, Sadie Davidson Devore, Rita Dawley, Marny Lawton, Joyita Neerkaje, Pam Nelson, Ruta Parker, Barbara Scavotto-Earley, and Nancy Whitcher.

First Friday Opening Receptions in the NAC Gallery are free to the public with refreshments available.  Receptions are a great opportunity to meet the artists.  And don’t forget to visit NAC Gallery Too! next door, featuring various local artists year round in a gift-shop style environment.  Gallery hours are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 12noon to 4pm for both galleries.  For more info call the NAC Gallery at 860-887-2789 or visit their website at www.norwicharts.org.

For further updates on what’s going on in the arts in the Norwich area, email the Norwich Arts Center at administration@norwicharts.org, and sign up to receive Intaglio, the NAC bi-weekly newsletter on their website.  NAC receives support from the CT Commission on Culture and Tourism, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
